Seoul Subway History

This data visualization project explores the historical evolution of Seoul’s subway system from the 1970s to 2024, tracing how the city’s transportation network expanded alongside rapid urban growth. Using the current subway map as a structural reference, I focused on newly added lines and stations by decade to reveal the gradual accumulation of infrastructure over time.
Each layer was printed on translucent paper and stacked chronologically, allowing viewers to flip through the system’s development like an archive or timeline. By transforming transit data into a layered physical experience, the project aims to visualize not only movement through the city, but also the growth, density, and changing structure of Seoul itself.
